Is There PS4 and PC Crossplay in Fortnite
Yes, Fortnite is now crossplay compatible on all platforms. That means players on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch, Android devices and those playing on the cloud can all hop into a lobby together and grab that Victory Royale. When it comes to Sony and PlayStation 4, though, the wait for crossplay took far longer than any other platform. This was because Sony was initially reluctant to allow crossplay compatibility for games on its platforms, though the reasons why aren’t clear. Some claim it was due to their position of strength in the industry at the time, while others believe it may have been due to technical issues on the backend of the PlayStation Network that were preventing it. Whatever it was, the good news is it’s no longer a problem and PS4 and PC crossplay in Fortnite is now a thing!
How to Play Fortnite with Friends on PC & PS4
First, console players on PS4 will want to make sure they set up an Epic Games account and link it to their PSN. This same process can be duplicated for console players on Xbox One as well if they connect their Xbox Live account to an Epic Games account. Once you’ve signed into the game, press the ‘Touchpad’ on your controller and you’ll open up the ‘Social’ menu. This will appear on the left-hand side of your screen. Now click on the icon that looks like a person with a ‘+’ sign in front of them. Here, you’ll be able to add someone’s ‘Display Name.’ This is their Epic Games account name, so go ahead and enter whatever their Epic Games account name is. Your friend will then receive a friend request within the Epic Games Launcher on PC, or within the game in Fortnite if they’re on PS4 (or on PC and already in-game, too). Just have them accept your invite, and then they’ll permanently appear in your Friends list within Fortnite’s social menu.
